The week before your procedure, please remember to:
Purchase all prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, ointments and straws.
Treat lips so they are not dry, cracked or chapped for best results.
Refrain from electrolysis for seven days prior to the procedure.
Do not wax, pluck, perm or dye lashes or eye brows two days before the procedure.
Gather relaxation aides for after the procedure - books, movies, etc.
The day of your procedure, please avoid:
Wearing make-up (If necessary, make-up can be removed before your procedure, but do not use oily removers or moisturizers.)
Remember to bring sunglasses to reduce your sensitivity to light, plan for someone to take you home if you will be under sedation and bring the make-up with you that you normally wear on the areas being treated.
Healing typically requires 5 - 10 days. For all procedures, use an ice pack for 10 minutes every 35 - 45 minutes to control swelling for the first 24 hours. Also, pigmentation can be very dark or bright immediately following your procedure. It will lighten and soften as it heals, and you will continue to see changes over the next 8 weeks.
The following ointments are recommended to sooth pigmented areas and assist in healing. Apply ointments with only a very thin layer.
A&D Ointment - Use on pigmented areas with a clean Q-tip for each site and each application.
Bacitracin Ointment - Use once a day as instructed above on brows and eyeliner.
Vaseline - Use as instructed for previous ointments.
For eye irritation, use:
Celluvisc or Visine-A - Use drops 3 - 4 nights.
Lacrilube (OTC) - For moderate to severe dry eyes.
During the healing process:
Do not rub, pick, peel, wipe or scratch pigmented areas to avoid scarring or delay healing. Areas will flake on their own. Keep hands and fingers away from these areas and blot only.
Apply recommended ointments on eyes and brows once a day.
Avoid strenuous activity that can cause sweating.
Do not swim.
Do not use topical cosmetics or cleansing chemicals on healing areas.
Utilize over-the-counter pain relievers to reduce discomfort and swelling.
Avoid shower sprays directly to your face.
Stay out of the sun and tanning beds during healing. Using a sun block of 30 to 45 SPF after healing can prevent premature fading.
Avoid indoor and outdoor jobs that will expose the pigmented areas to dirt, dust or other irritants. These could cause infections.
Contact your physician if you develop an infection such as prolonged swelling, redness, a fowl odor or yellow drainage.
Do not dye, wax or tweeze brows for 10 days.
Electrolysis should not be done for 2 weeks.
Do not wear contact lenses during the procedure or until healed.
Do not perm lashes for 2 days.
Do not use an eyelash curler until healing is complete.
Avoid wearing mascara for 3-5 days, and use a new tube when healed.
Do not pick, peel or rub the skin on your lips after the procedure to avoid scarring or color loss. It will flake off naturally in 3 - 5 days.
Do not bite into salty, oily/greasy or spicy foods. Cut them into pieces and eat. Drink with a straw.
Do not bleach teeth until healing is complete.
Keep toothpaste off your lips while healing, and use a small brush.
