Baccalaureate Program
Admission to the Dental Hygiene Program is competitive. Selection is based on the applicant's post-secondary academic record, life experiences and potential for success in a baccalaureate program in dental hygiene. New students are admitted for the fall semester only. All application materials must be submitted by January 15th of the year in which admission is sought. To be considered for admission, students must meet the following requirements and complete the listed instructions below:
Requirements
- Be in good standing with the last college or university attended.
- Take the ACT or SAT and provide individual component scores and composite score. (Recommended for the 2006 admissions cycle; REQUIRED for 2007 admissions cycle.)
- Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale with a grade of “C” or better on all specifically required courses.
- Have a minimum of 60 semester hours of coursework from an accredited college or university. Course numbers and titles are those of the University of Oklahoma.
- Ideally applicants should have completed the FOUNDATIONAL coursework (see pre-requisite courses) before the January 15 application deadline.
Acceptance is based upon completion of foundational coursework by the end of the spring semester prior to admission. ALL pre-requisite courses, excluding foundational, must be complted by the time the fall semester begins.

- Applicants must investigate dental hygiene as a career prior to application by spending a minimum of 40 hours observing a dental hygienist. Observation of a dentist does NOT meet this requirement. Please complete the 40 hour shadowing form.

Career Statement Form - Two letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with applicant's success or potential for successful completion of the program.
- Official transcripts from all high schools, colleges or universities attended.
- Submit a completed University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center application on-line that includes the prioritized site(s) for which the applicant wishes to be considered.
Apply On-line - If English is the student's second language, a minimum score of 250 is required on the national standardized TOEFL examination.
- If you receive an offer of acceptance into the program, it is contingent upon meeting the required “C” in all remaining pre-requisite coursework and a cumulative GPA of 2.5.

** Confirmation of correct information by the applicant MUST be completed by February 1st of the year of application to be eligible for possible interview.
