Non-Categorical Year

The Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery occasionally offers a one-year, non-categorical year residency program in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. This program is intimately associated with the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program; however, the non-categorical year resident typically staffs and operates a dentoalveolar clinic within the College of Dentistry. This dentoalveolar clinic may or may not be associated with teaching undergraduate dental students in the science of dental extractions and other oral surgical procedures. 

The the non-categorical year resident will be required to participate in all grand rounds that occur within the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Department and participate in a research project that may be publishable in nature. Applicants must be eligible for state licensure and have completed a dental program accredited by the American Dental Association in addition to successful completion of Part 1and 2 of the national boards. 

Application Process

Specific information needed for applicants interested in the non-categorical year residency program include:

  1. One copy of board scores
  2. One copy of transcripts
  3. One copy of curriculum vitae
  4. One letter of intent and what your short and long-term goals are
  5. Three letters of recommendation
  6. The above information must be forwarded in one package along with a 2" x 2" photo
  7. CBSE Scores
