As an AEGD resident, you will provide comprehensive care to a varied community and spend approximately 80 percent of the program involved in direct patient care in a group practice environment. From routine check-ups to placing and restoring dental implants, each day will offer new and complex challenges.
The program provides didactic and/or clinical training in each of the following areas:
- Oral Diagnosis and Treatment Planning
- Endodontics
- Operative Dentistry
- Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics
- Periodontics
- Implants
- Oral Pathology
- Minor Orthodontics
- Oral Surgery
- Pediatric Dentistry
- Dental Practice Management
If selected, you will be one of an elite group of only six residents to participate in this advanced program. The hours in the AEGD Program for residents are 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except for occasional didactic sessions, which may occur before or after these hours. Residents may need to work beyond these hours, if needed, to keep up with patient records, treatment planning or lab work. Clinic hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and are expected to be on time and to maintain a professional appearance.
Residents will attend all classes, seminars, lectures, and meetings that are scheduled by the director of the program. These may occasionally include evening or weekend sessions that are important supplements to the program. However, most lectures and seminars are scheduled on Friday afternoons. The program starts on July 22 and ends on June 30 of the following year. No time off is allowed in the month of July or during orientation.
Additionally, our residents are expected to regularly work at the Good Shepherd Missionin the evening, supervising and assisting dental students with charitable care, as well as treating pediatric patients. Residents also participate as volunteers on the Oklahoma Dental Foundation Mobile Van, a traveling RV-style mobile dental care unit.
As a participant in the program, there is no tuition, instead, you will receive a stipend of $30,000 per year. In addition, you will receive health and professional liability insurance coverage and are entitled to 10 days of paid time off during the year.
