The University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry is proud to be the home of the state’s only pediatric dentistry residency program.
Three (3) residents are accepted each year into this 24-month residency. The program in pediatric dentistry is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and has been granted the status of “initial accreditation.”
Training under the mentorship of highly-qualified, board-certified pediatric dentistry faculty, residents provide preventive and comprehensive care to a large and diverse pediatric patient population in nationally-ranked Oklahoma Children’s Hospital OU Health and the co-located dental clinic.
Our location on one of only four comprehensive academic health centers in the nation enables residents to collaborate readily with specialists from other dental, medical and inter-professional disciplines on our campus as they treat healthy children; special needs, medically-compromised and behaviorally challenged patients; and pediatric patients with rare pathologies and genetic conditions.
A rotation at community-based Variety Care Straka Terrace affords opportunities to gain invaluable experience in a public health clinic, providing comprehensive dental care to underserved pediatric patients in the Oklahoma City region.
Residents who successfully complete this program receive a certificate in Pediatric Dentistry and are educationally-qualified for the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry certificate process. In addition to serving pediatric patients in their local communities, they are also prepared to assume leadership roles in the pediatric dentistry profession, academia and government service.
