Prospective Students

The OU College of Dentistry is home to the state of Oklahoma’s only Doctor of Dental Surgery degree program and Bachelor of Science degree in dental hygiene. In addition, the College of Dentistry also provides graduate and residency programs in advanced general dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, and periodontics.

Referring Doctors

The OU College of Dentistry is proud to be an integral part of the dental community and provides professional services such as CBCT imaging, oral pathology reports and more. The college also accepts referrals from outside dentists for limited and comprehensive treatment.

Dr. Jaewon Kim graduated from Kyungpook National University School of Dentistry in 2006. He immediately joined the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program at Daegu Fatima Hospital, where he served as an intern and resident until 2010. Following this, he served in the military as a public official and head of the dental department at Gapyung Health Center until 2013. During his service, he pursued and completed a PhD in Oral Anatomy at Yonsei University School of Dentistry.

From 2016 to 2018, Dr. Kim practiced as a general dentist in Vancouver, Canada, after obtaining Canadian dental licensure. His passion for surgery led him to pursue a residency in Periodontics at the University at Buffalo, NY, where he also conducted research under the mentorship of Dr. Praveen Arany from 2018 to 2021. Currently, Dr. Kim is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Periodontics at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry. His research focuses on the clinical applications of 3D printing and scaffolds for bone regeneration.

Dr. Kim is board-certified in Periodontology and Dental Implant Surgery in Korea, Canada, and the United States. He has received numerous accolades, including winning three consecutive Saudi Society of Periodontology research poster competitions and the Nobel Biocare Clinical Documentation award. He was also a finalist in the 2021 American Academy of Periodontology Research Forum Competition in Miami and has been selected as a speaker for the 2024 American Academy of Periodontology meeting in San Diego.

In addition to his clinical and research accomplishments, Dr. Kim serves as a reviewer for esteemed journals such as the Journal of Periodontal and Implant ScienceClinical Advances in Periodontics, and the Journal of Periodontology. He has published extensively in high-impact journals, including the Journal of Fungi, the Journal of the American Dental Association, and the Journal of Prosthodontics. Dr. Kim is also an international speaker who takes great pleasure in lecturing and sharing his expertise.
