Bench Test Preparatory Course

The OU College of Dentistry is proud to offer the Bench Test Preparatory Course. This week-long course is designed for international dentists who desire instruction in fixed prosthodontics, operative dentistry and removable prosthodontics. This course will explore concepts and procedures required by most U.S. dental schools as part of the admissions process.

Course Overview

Learning Objectives

  • Perform a variety of amalgam and composite preparations and restorations on mannequin simulators utilizing basic principles of sound operative dentistry.
  • Perform an array of indirect full coverage preparations on mannequin simulators applying basic principles of fixed prosthodontics.
  • Perform a wide range of exercises designed to familiarize participants how to fabricate an appropriate removable prosthesis for a variety of edentulous configurations. 

Eligibility

  • Participant must be a graduate of an international dental school. The academic program of study must be at least four years in length, culminating in a degree, diploma, or certificate in dentistry.
  • Applicants whose native language is not English need a minimum TOEFL score of 79.   
  • Registrants may be foreign national, US citizen or Permanent Resident.

Tuition $3,995

Tuition includes:

  • All dental instruments and materials
  • Mock bench test and an individualized report of results
  • Daily lunch
  • Certificate of completion

Course Instructors

Below is a list of the outstanding instructors participating in this course. All are full-time faculty at the OU College of Dentistry. Click on each course instructors' name to read a brief bio. 

Nancy L. Jacobsen, D.D.S., M.S.

Dr. Nancy Jacobsen is the chair of the Department of Prosthodontics at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry.  She earned her D.D.S. in 1990 and completed her residency in prosthodontics at OU College of Dentistry in 1995. 

In 1996, Dr. Jacobsen joined the Department of Removable Prosthodontics at OU College of Dentistry. In 2007 she was appointed as chair of the Oral Implantology Department and held that position until 2014. At that time, she was appointed chair of the newly organized Prosthodontics Department comprised of fixed and removable prosthodontics, oral implantology, and occlusion.  

Dr. Jacobsen has received several awards including Outstanding Clinical Professor, Outstanding Classroom Professor and Outstanding Full-Time Faculty. In 2014 she received the Outstanding Professorial Achievement Award from the OU College of Dentistry. She has presented continuing education on topics of implant dentistry and prosthodontics.

Zachary Dacus, D.D.S.

Dr. Zachary Dacus is an assistant professor in the Department of Operative Dentistry at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry. He is a 2004 graduate of Creighton University School of Dentistry. He joined the faculty at the OU College of Dentistry in 2015.

Dr. Dacus is the Bench Test Preparatory Course Director.
