Residency

The residency program is the oldest West of the Mississippi and was founded in 1923 by Dr. Frances Reichmann. Since that time, the program has graduated many oral and maxillofacial surgeons who represent the University through their practices throughout the United States and foreign countries.

Our program is well-balanced and at this time, residents who have successfully completed the program have a greater than 90 percent pass rate on the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The program performs approximately 975 operating room cases per year, with an additional clinic load of 7,000 patients. Residents perform over 1,000 IV sedation and outpatient general anesthetics, both at the College of Dentistry and the University Hospital Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic. The program also provides a full-scope of services, including the provision of care for one-third of all facial trauma referred to the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center Level One Trauma Center. Meet the current residents here.

In addition, we are involved in the dentofacial deformity program in the Department of Orthodontics and with the Department of Implantology. Research is actively conducted in the area of biomaterials and clinical outcomes of major oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures.
