Prospective Students

The OU College of Dentistry is home to the state of Oklahoma’s only Doctor of Dental Surgery degree program and Bachelor of Science degree in dental hygiene. In addition, the College of Dentistry also provides graduate and residency programs in advanced general dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, and periodontics.

College Announces New Leadership in Key Position

The University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry announced on Tuesday, Aug. 22, the appointment of Farah Masood, D.D.S., M.S., as the new Chair of Diagnostic and Preventive Sciences and Division Head of Oral Diagnosis. The new division will be the Division of Oral Diagnosis and Radiology, headed by Dr. Masood.

Dr. Masood takes on the responsibilities of this position following Susan Settle, D.D.S., who will retire on Sept. 1 after providing 35 years of service and leadership to the OU College of Dentistry.

Dr. Masood obtained a doctorate of dental surgery degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry. Her post-graduate training includes one year of general practice training at Punjab Medical Hospital Lahore, Pakistan, and one year of general practice residency from Truman Medical Center, Kansas City, MO. In addition, Dr. Masood completed an oral and maxillofacial radiology residency program and a Master’s degree in Oral Biology at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

She joined the OU College of Dentistry faculty as an assistant professor and director of Oral Radiology in 2000. She has been serving as the division head of Oral Radiology and is the course director for all Oral Radiology courses for both dental and dental hygiene students. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology.

Dr. Settle went to Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX, and graduated with a degree in biology. She moved to Oklahoma and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in zoology before coming to the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry. Dr. Settle obtained a doctorate of dental surgery degree in 1986 and pursued a general practice residency from Yale Medical Center in New Haven, CT, before becoming a dedicated faculty member at the college.

Since being a faculty member, Dr. Settle has served in numerous roles at the college, including chair of the Department of Diagnostic and Preventative Sciences, division head of oral diagnosis and community dentistry, director of oral medicine, program coordinator and professor.

Dr. Settle has been a member of multiple professional organizations, including America College of Dentists, Pierre Fauchard Academy, American Dental Association, Oklahoma Dental Association and more.
