Prospective Students

The OU College of Dentistry is home to the state of Oklahoma’s only Doctor of Dental Surgery degree program and Bachelor of Science degree in dental hygiene. In addition, the College of Dentistry also provides graduate and residency programs in advanced general dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, and periodontics.

The OU College of Dentistry is proud to be an integral part of the dental community and provides professional services such as CBCT imaging, oral pathology reports and more. The college also accepts referrals from outside dentists for limited and comprehensive treatment.

OU Dentistry Faculty Receives the O.B. Vaughan Special Recognition Award

 

The University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry is pleased to announce that G. Frans Currier, D.D.S., MSD. M.Ed., David Ross Boyd Professor Emeritus in the division of orthodontics, was recently honored by the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) as the recipient of the 2023 O.B. Vaughn Special Recognition Award. 

This award recognizes an individual who has significantly contributed to orthodontic education and furthered the ideals of the ABO. 

“Our leaders in the ABO and those in orthodontic education have a profound and positive influence with our current and future members of the orthodontic profession,” said Dr. Currier. It is my privilege to accept this recognition for my fellow colleagues and alumni, an award named for an outstanding professional, O.B. Vaughan.”

Dr. Currier completed his pre-dental and dental studies at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and graduated with his doctor of dental surgery degree in 1967. He served in the U.S. Navy as a dental officer in the late ‘60s and then went on to complete his MSD from the University of Washington.

He taught at several universities before joining the faculty at OU, where he earned his M.Ed. in educational psychology in 1984. During his tenure at the OU College of Dentistry, Dr. Currier has served as chair of the department of departmental sciences, head of the division of orthodontics and many other committees.

Dr. Currier has dedicated more than 40 years of dedicated services to the OU College of Dentistry. He received numerous honors from OU, including Outstanding Professorial Achievement in 2017, the Presbyterian Health Foundation Presidential Professorship from 2008-2012, Outstanding Contributions to Faculty Governance in 1999 and the Regent’s Award for Superior Accomplishment in Professorial and University Service in 1998. He received the first Dean’s Service Award from the College of Dentistry in 1997.

Further, Dr. Currier was recognized with the title of David Ross Boyd Professor Emeritus from the OU Board of Regents in 2014.

“On behalf of the faculty, staff, students and alumni of the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry, we are incredibly proud of Dr. Frans Currier for this well-deserved recognition and extend our sincerest congratulations,” said Paul M. Mullasseril, D.D.S., M.S., dean of the college. “Dr. Currier is a world-class academician and has dedicated himself in service to both the college and the profession.”
