In 2012, the OU College of Dentistry set into motion a plan to invest in our own future. Our building, which had been primarily untouched since its completion in 1976, was in need of major renovations. The college had grown beyond the capacity of the building, and major advances had been made in both technique and technology. Thus, the college launched the Legacy Project, a $20 million capital campaign.
Through the generosity of our alumni and friends, we have so far raised more than $12.3 million. As a result, we have been able to remodel 40 percent of our building, providing our students with state-of-the-art classrooms and three brand-new comprehensive care clinics that focus on patient-centered treatment. These necessary changes have allowed us to continue to attract and retain the brightest students and top faculty, as well as aiding us in our goal to become the top clinical education program in the nation.
In order to complete our vision for a fully modern and state-of-the-art facility, we are continuing to seek private support. More than half of our building is still needing updates, and technology is constantly changing. As we enter into the second phase of the Legacy Project, we would like to focus on the remodel of our pre-clinic laboratory, as well as our graduate programs and clinics. These proposed renovations are critical in our continued success to uphold our mission of improving the health of Oklahomans and shaping the future of dentistry by developing highly qualified dental practitioners through excellence in education, patient care, research, community service, faculty and facilities.
The Legacy Project campaign for the College of Dentistry provides alumni and friends with unique opportunities to recognize the special nature of this project through the funding and naming of prominent and important areas throughout the building.
Naming opportunities range from an exceptional gift that would provide the private funding component for the naming rights to the college to targeted gifts that would provide funding for particular elements, such as classrooms, clinics, group practices, operatories and much more. See below for more information.
We hope we can count on your support and generosity, as you consider ways in which you can leave your legacy here at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry.
