Become a Patient at OU College of Dentistry

Welcome to the OU College of Dentistry. Our mission is to improve the health of Oklahomans and shape the future of dentistry. By developing highly qualified dental practitioners, we strive to be the source of dental care throughout the state.

Under the direct supervision of a licensed dental faculty member, our dental and dental hygiene students work together to provide our patients with high-quality comprehensive dental care in our Student Care Clinic.

For more specialized care, the college is proud to offer several graduate and residency programs, including Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS), Orthodontics, Periodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, and Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD). The college is also home to our own Faculty Practice, where patients can receive their dental care directly from our faculty.

These clinics and programs allow us to provide our patients with full-service comprehensive oral healthcare. Thank you for your interest in becoming a patient at the OU College of Dentistry and thank you for trusting us with your smile. Find which clinic is right for you below.

I've Applied to Become a Patient with the Student Care Clinic - Now What?

Scheduling Your Appointment

Once you submit your completed Prospective Patient form, your name will be placed on a list of potential patients.  A representative from the OU College of Dentistry Communications Center will call you when an assessment appointment becomes available if you meet the criteria for the educational needs of the students as a prospective patient.  The educational needs of the students will determine the number of patients that we will assess and that need varies throughout the year.

Due to the clinical education mission of the school, completion of this Prospective Patient Form does not guarantee an assessment appointment.

Paying for Your Appointment

An initial assessment will be performed and preliminary x-rays will be taken.  You will be advised of your dental needs and if you qualify for the student program.  Although we cannot guarantee we can provide you treatment, knowing and understanding your dental needs will assist you in making informed decisions about your dental care.  If not accepted into the program, you will be provided a free report summary including copies of your x-rays and a list of your dental needs.

Continuing as a Student Care Clinic Patient

After your initial screening appointment, you will be assigned if your needs as a patient align with a student's educational needs. If this is the case, you will be scheduled for follow-up appointments and continued care under that student.

The best patient for a dental student has the following:

  • Time - Patients should be available for two (2) half-day appointments per month.  Appointments typically are three (3) hours long and will start at 9:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. depending on your student’s availability.
  • Attendance - Cancelling or failing to arrive for two (2) appointments could result in your release from the program.
  • Money - Patients are expected to pay for services before the procedure is performedand we do not offer payment plans.  We will provide courtesy insurance filing for dental benefits.
